Router Setup

Secure, Fast WiFi for Your Home or Business

A router that's just plugged in and left on default settings isn't doing you any favors. Weak signals, multiple devices dropping off, slow speeds, security risks—these are all things we can fix with proper setup. We'll configure your router right, secure it, and make sure it's working the way it should be.

Common Router Problems

We see these issues all the time:

  • Weak WiFi signal — can't reach the whole house or office
  • Devices dropping off — phones and tablets randomly disconnect
  • Can't connect — some devices just won't stay connected
  • Slow speeds — even though your internet service is fast
  • Default settings — router still has the factory password and WiFi name

Most of these problems come down to poor setup or outdated firmware. The good news: we can usually fix them.

How We Set Up Your Router

Get the Details

First, we find out what router you have and look up its specs. Most routers use the same IP address to access settings—either 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1—so we're usually in right away.

Configure Your WiFi

We set up your WiFi network with a name you like and a strong password. We make sure the settings are optimized for your situation—whether you need coverage across a big house or a small office.

Secure It

We change the default admin password so only you can access the router settings. We set a strong WiFi password. And we update the firmware if there are newer versions available—firmware updates often fix bugs and add security improvements.

Fine-Tune for Your Needs

For a home, we make sure your devices connect smoothly and stay connected. For a small business, we might add extra security settings depending on what you're doing. Every situation is different, so we adjust accordingly.

Test and Confirm

Before we're done, we test the connection from different rooms or areas. We make sure you can connect, that the speed is good, and that everything is working the way it should.

Extending Your Coverage: Ethernet Over Power Devices

Got a dead zone in your house or office where WiFi won't reach? Or a room where the signal is just too weak? Ethernet over Power (EOP) devices are usually a good solution.

Here's how they work: You plug a small box into a power outlet near your router and connect it to the router with an ethernet cable. Then at any other place in the house or office where you need better coverage, you plug in a second EOP box into any outlet. That second box can connect directly to a computer or device with an ethernet cable, or you can plug a wireless router into it to extend your WiFi to that area.

It's a clean solution because you're using your existing power lines to carry the ethernet signal—no running cables through walls or crawl spaces. And it's usually more stable than trying to extend WiFi wirelessly, which can slow things down.

If you're dealing with weak signal or dead zones, ask us about EOP devices when we set up your router. We can help you figure out if it's the right solution for your space.

Router Recommendations

NetGear and D-Link — Easy and Straightforward

These are the easiest routers to set up. The interfaces are intuitive, the settings make sense, and there are rarely any surprises. If you're looking for a reliable router, these are solid choices.

TP-Link — Budget Option

TP-Link routers are cheaper, and they work just fine—but they're a bit trickier to configure. If budget is tight and you're getting us to set it up anyway, TP-Link can work. But if budget permits, get the ones that will be stable and secure for a long time.

When you're ready to upgrade or buy a new router, give us a call. We can recommend something that fits your space and needs without breaking the bank.

Our Warranty

All the work we do on your router is covered under warranty. If something we set up isn't working right, or if you have an issue with the configuration, we'll come back and fix it. No charge for the labour.

Note: We don't cover warranty on the router hardware itself—that's between you and the manufacturer. But our setup work? That's guaranteed.
